  1. RDA in NACO Module 1.a Purpose of These Modules Learning Objectives

  2. Why These Modules? • June 2011: RDA Testing Report and Recommendations From the Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control • June 2011: Statement from the PCC Policy Committee • August 2011: PCC Policy Statement on RDA Training

  3. Why These Modules? • December 2011: PCC Day One for RDA Authority Records defined • The PCC is currently creating RDA NACO training that will be available to all PCC members starting in Spring 2012. This training will address the construction of RDA access points, highlighting the differences between RDA and AACR2. The training will also cover the coding of the new MARC fields 046 and 3xx in RDA authority records

  4. The Result • Online modules – for broader coverage and economy • Informal in nature • With specific comparisons to AACR2 when helpful • Not a substitute for a complete reading of RDA! • Self-paced • Exercises throughout in online format • Online Follow-up Sessions and Review

  5. The Result • Flexible delivery • NACO contact may take the modules and repackage for staff • Or any staff member may take the modules • Or a NACO funnel coordinator may take them and repackage for the funnel members • Or any other arrangements we have not thought of … • Not an authorities “ground-up” workshop

  6. The Realities • PCC RDA policies are in flux • LC has published its own set of LCPS’s • PCC policies may differ (or not!) • Things– not just policies-- are changing by the minute • You need to monitor PCC RDA activities via PCC lists or the PCC website • Flexibility is essential

  7. Learning Objectives • Assumptions: • You are an independent NACO cataloger in AACR2. You are comfortable with creating NAR’s in MARC. • Goals: • You will be able to produce name authority records in MARC that will follow RDA instructions and meet PCC/NACO standards.

  8. Structure and Delivery • Modular • Video (5-20 minutes each) • Demonstrations (5-15 minutes each) • Quizzes / Exercises (self-paced) • Follow-up Webinars for Q/A • Sequential training recommended
