  2. Mission The SafeZone® mission is to save lives by preventing gun violence. SafeZone® Saves Lives

  3. Arapahoe High School An analysis of the recent gun tragedy at Arapahoe High School (AHS) in Littleton, Colorado (December 13, 2013) provides a context for how SafeZone® may have altered the outcome of another terrible day. SafeZone® Saves Lives

  4. SafeZone® Saves Lives Tragedy once again struck a Colorado high school on December 13, 2013. A student’s life was taken when an armed shooter (a student at the school) entered the school armed with a shotgun and a machete. He carried IEDs in a backpack and was able to deploy an IED before taking his own life. The attack lasted only 80 seconds due to rapid action from the School Resource Officer (SRO) who was located in the school at the time of attack. The SRO was able to achieve an extremely low response mitigation time, certainly saving lives. We analyze the data about this attack to show how SafeZone® may have altered this attack, even in the span of 80 seconds.

  5. Arapahoe High School Attack • At left, a news graphic of the AHS attack showing relevant locations and time line. • Above, an aerial view of the the school area in the news graphic. • The shooter is reported to have carried his weapons and ammunition openly, after exciting his car parked in the parking area and moving to attack the school.

  6. SafeZone® Example Deployment at AHS, SRP Support • On the left, a sample SafeZone® AHS deployment is shown. Camera protection of the parking lot, entrances, and hallways. • If the threat can be detected outside, Execute Lockout Response. • If the threat is detected inside, Execute Lockdown Response. • SafeZone® combined with the Standard Response Plan increases Response effectiveness, faster, better. SafeZone® Saves Lives

  7. SafeZone® and the Standard Response Plan at AHS This illustration depicts how SafeZone® supports the Lockout Response using the AHS attack as example: • SafeZone® detects gun and gunman in parking lot, Location 2. Notification results in lockout. • Gunman is denied entry into building • SafeZone® sends notification to on-site SRO (green indicator, hallway lower right). SRO moves rapidly to gunman location • SafeZone® automatically designates threat and safe zones: • Red: threat is active here, bystanders are exposed to danger • Yellow: threatis nearby, bystanders are not safe • Green: indicates safe evacuation routesor safe shelter • SRO responds without hesitation, fully informed. Simultaneously, bystanders are advised how and where to seek safety. SafeZone® Saves Lives

  9. SafeZone® and the AHS Attack • SafeZone® integrated with your threat response will vastly improve Response. • “Intelligent” video surveillance combined with automated Standard Response Plans can prevent attacks and minimize harm. • The AHS attack could have been changed if the Gunman had been locked outside the school. SafeZone® Saves Lives

  10. Summation • SafeZone® eliminates attacker advantage. • Quick effective response save lives. • Prevent gun violence. Detect Inform Prevent The world’s first and only gun detection system SafeZone® Saves Lives

  12. SafeZone® and School Standard Response Plans • All schools have (or should have) a Standard Response Plan (SRP) defining protocols during an active shooter event. A typical 4 point Standard Response Plan for a school being attacked includes: • Lockout • Lockdown • Evacuate • Shelter • SafeZone® supports and enhances school SRPs. • Early detection of a firearm outside: Lockout activated within seconds • Responders receive real time continuous information via video surveillance should a shooter enter the building: Lockdown protocol activated • Threat and safety zones are identified, bystanders are routed away from danger: Evacuate • Bystanders unable to evacuate will know where to seek safety: Shelter. • Prevention • SafeZone® is a force multiplier • Reduces response time • Increases response effectiveness and efficiency • Protects persons at risk SafeZone® Saves Lives
