Edexcel GCSE Maths

1. Edexcel GCSE Maths From September 2006 GCSE Maths will be offered at two tiers only, Foundation and Higher. As a Preferred Partner of Edexcel, we will be publishing dedicated resources for the Edexcel GCSE Maths specification. With our brand new resources, making the switch to a two tier GCSE will be straightforward for both you and your school.

2. Why new resources? • The changes to the specification are not simply a case of merging Intermediate content into Foundation and Higher content • For the first time you will be teaching Foundation students up to a grade C • Foundation students will need access to grade C material, and will need more guidance towards it – old intermediate texts may be off-putting and contain extra material that just isn’t required • Higher students will need to be exposed to a wider range of Maths than previously

3. Why Hodder Murray? • GCSE Mathematics for Edexcel has been written by experienced examiners and authors, and combines their teaching and examining experience to provide the perfect course for GCSE students. • The Foundation and Higher Student’s Books have already been endorsed by Edexcel for use with their GCSE Mathematics two tier specification, and the supporting components have endorsement pending subject to approval from Edexcel.

4. To fully support the new two-tier linear specification, GCSE Mathematics for Edexcel has a dedicated Student’s Book, Teacher’s Resource Book, Assessment Pack and Homework Book for each tier. 8. Foundation GCSE Mathematics for Edexcel • Recognises the abilities of Foundation tier candidates • Introductory chapters revise the key concepts of number, algebra, statistics and geometry

9. Higher GCSE Mathematics for Edexcel • Includes an introductory ‘reminder’ chapter that can be omitted by students going straight to Level 8 work • A* and A material will be annotated so that B grade candidates need not study extraneous material

10. Teacher’s Resources (with CD-ROM) • Matching Foundation and Higher Teacher’s Resources for each Student’s Book • Contain teaching notes for each chapter, coursework ideas, additional exercises, photocopiable worksheets and full answers • Include a customisable CD-ROM of all the material

Homework Books (with interactive CD-ROM) • The Homework Books, one for Foundation and one for Higher, include a parallel exercise for every exercise in the Student’s Books, providing ready-made homework • Each of the Homework Books contain a Personal Tutor CD-ROM which provides the perfect audio-visual companion for reference and consolidation

12. Assessment Packs Contain photocopiable graded mixed exercises and mock exam papers, both with full mark schemes, enabling your students to prepare thoroughly for their exams. There is one Assessment Pack for the Foundation tier and one for the Higher tier.

Personal Tutors The Personal Tutor CD-ROMs, one for Foundation and one for Higher, are for use on a whiteboard as a whole-class teaching tool or for individual computer use as a consolidation and revision tool. Each CD-ROM contains audio-visual worked examples for every topic in the specification. • Display worked solutions to a whole class – especially useful for those teaching a topic for the first time • Pace of commentary can be controlled, rewound and replayed for further clarification
