  1. Energy Budget of the Earth

  2. All objects absorb energy. Which means, If an objects temperature is to stay the same… (it keeps its total energy the same) An object must get rid of energy equal to what it absorbed.

  3. If the sun is giving the Earth energy, The Earth must be getting rid of energy. Otherwise the Earth would keep heating up!

  4. We call this concept the Earth’s ENERGY BUDGET $ IN = $ OUT ENERGY IN = ENERGY OUT SUN PUTS ENERGY IN HOW IS ENERGY GETTING OFF THE EARTH?

  5. Energy Budget Poster • Each students makes their own, but may work together. • Use textbooks, computers, resc to create a poster showing the Earth’s Energy Budget. • Must show: Express as % or Watts • All energy inputs to the Earth. • All energy outputs from the Earth • Key Concepts: • Reflectivity, Absorption, Emission, Infrared, Ultraviolet, Radio waves, Shortwave and Longwave energy, greenhouse effect
