INTRODUCTIONTHE EXISTING STATE The University of Mostar is an educational, scientific and cultural institution of wider national, state and social importance About 11.500 students study at this University and lectures are performed by 865 professors and associates The University is organized as the association of Faculties having the absolute academic and partial financial autonomy Faculties are managed by Deans and Academic Councils and the University is managed by a Rector, an Academic Senate and a Governing Council

FINANCES Financing of the University is based on the cantonal budget, students participation, research projects and donations The funds from the cantonal budget, allocated to the University are distributed among the Faculties according to compromise The University does not have a system of the distribution of the funds, based on quality of education, effectiveness and priorities The University does not receive any funds from the revenue raised by the Faculties but common costs are covered exclusively by the budget Students fees are mostly used to increase the salaries and cover material costs of the Faculties The present system of financing has as its consequence different salaries for the employees at the respective Faculties

CURRICULA AND ECTS Most of the Faculties have undergone the process of analysis of their existing teaching plan and programme, made them uniform with the referential surrounding Faculties and defined ECTS scores Certain Faculties are already dealing with the problem issues of the study cycle defined by the Bologna Declaration and in that sense are approaching the restructure of curriculum according to ECTS Parallel work on the realisation of the Information package whose main part would be the examination of the teaching plan and programme

CURRICULA AND ECTS Each Faculty has prepared a new curricula, defined ECTS scores and made the Information package (ECTS guide-book) The Information package (ECTS guide-book) has been made at the level of the University The following committees were formed by the Senates decision: Committee for the implementation of the Bologna Declaration, curricula and ECTS Committee for improving the quality of teaching process at the University

CURRICULA AND ECTS It should be pointed out that starting with the academic year 2005/2006 teaching process will be organised according to the Bologna Declaration as follows: (3+2) Faculty of Agronomy, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Pedagogy, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Computing (5+0) Academy of Fine Arts, Faculty of Law (3+1+1) Faculty of Economy (6) Faculty of Medicine (3) Medical college

    11. 5. INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN This plan has been made and delivered to the required institutions (enclosed schemas of the organisational structure and management). Taking part in the committee for making an uniform University Statute at the level of BiH that should include Bologna Declaration instructions (Integral University, ECTS, mobility, quality assurance...).

QUALITY ASSURANCE New books of rules prescribing the criteria for teachers and assistants election at the University have been adopted, causing the complete re-election in the past two years Formed committees for the implementation of the Bologna Declaration both at the level of University and each Faculty According to the decision of the Senate of the University of Mostar, every Faculty should organise the international science conference from their field at least once in two years Employment of 20 science novices and specialisation for all assistants, weather in the country or abroad The Senates decision obligating the deans of the Faculties to regularly discuss the implementation of the Bologna Declaration...

QUALITY ASSURANCE The Senates decision on implementation of an uniform students poll at the Faculties and its analisis at the Faculty and University level is realised for the first time in the academic year 2004/2005 Conditions for use of the integral information systems of students sections were created by providing an adequate hardware equipment (World Bank project). An adequate software, which will provide better University management and decision making, should be installed till the beginning of the new academic year. It is going to provide functioning of the integral information system that includes students sections and other elements needed for functioning of the modern integral University (finances, human resources, library)
