No More Embarrassing Messages: Is Facebook Finally Releasing an 'Unsend' Option?

Have you ever sent that one little chat message, perhaps when you were so sleepy or incredibly drunk, that you immediately regretted afterwards? If you're a fan of social media, then you probably have. Worry not, however, for you are not the only one with an embarrassing experience. 1. No More Embarrassing Messages: Is Facebook Finally Releasing an 'Unsend' Option?

  2. Have you ever sent that one little chat message, perhaps when you were so sleepy or incredibly drunk, that you immediately regretted afterwards? If you're a fan of social media, then you probably have. Worry not, however, for you are not the only one with an embarrassing experience. It might perhaps be so commonplace that Facebook has been spotted testing a new feature on their Messenger app: the unsend option. A screencap of this feature was first posted on Twitter by Jade Manchun Wong, who through reverse- engineering codes in Android apps, has a track record of unearthing test features before they go live. 3. Wong adds, in a following tweet, that there is a time frame wherein messages can be deleted. That is similar to Gmail's unsend feature which only gives the user a few seconds before it expires. While this time limit can cause panic to a user, it is also useful to ensure that nobody will abuse this feature; thinking that they can send whatever they want in the pretence that evidence of these is removable at any time. While this feature can be useful, it can also end up being redundant. Do recall that users get notified via push notifications; if the receiver clicks these, there's no stopping them from viewing the message. It can be that Facebook will configure the notifications to appear after the unsend time limit expires for the sender. In the meantime, we'll have to wait and see once/if the feature is officially introduced.
