Syiah Kuala University(UNSYIAH) • UNSYIAH was founded on September 2, 1960 and has become the largest state university in Aceh, Indonesia • The university is named after the prominent theologian, Tengku Abdur Rauf As Singkili, who lived in the 16th century and was a scholar in law and religion studies • UNSYIAH is also known as Jantong Hatee Rakyat Aceh (the heart of Acehnese people)

ICT for Socio- Economic Development • We are part of SOI (School on Internet) Asia Project that connects universities networks and create distance learning environment among members of the project • We are participating in ADOC 2.0 Project to bridge digital divide in Aceh and extend the reach of ICT trainings for children, students, SMEs, women, and the people in remote locations • We create R&D division under UNSYIAH-ADOC e-Learning Center to boost ICT innovation among IT students • We setup GIS center for data-spatial analysis and creation in Aceh and to help local government

  11. School on Internet (SOI) Asia Project: Cont’d • We work closely with Keio University in Japan (the host of SOI Project) • Establish network/distance learning environment among members • Conduct lecture series with inter-university grade exchanges • Create distance arts events for kids

  12. UNSYIAH-ADOC Project • Established in Dec 2010 as part of ADOC 2.0 Project • Conduct training to reduce the gap between those who have access to and control of ICT technology and those who don’t • Deliver the training and reach the people throught mobile center activities

  13. Introduction to Graphic Design for Orphans • The children are the victims of 2004 Tsunami • They are accomodated by UPTD Rumoh Seujahtera Jroh Naguna in Banda Aceh

  14. Introduction to Office Apps for Women • UNSYIAH-ADOC e-Learning Center conducted a basic computer training and office applications to women at Putroe Aceh, a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering women in Aceh

  17. ICT Innovation @UNSYIAH-ADOC R&D Division • Provide IT students internship to learn and setup ICT technology. The university support the equipt and servers • Design and implement e-Meukat, an e-Commerce Apps using Facebook API • Design and implement Vidbook, a Youtube like application for internal video streaming to support university Learning Management System (LMS)

  21. ICT Innovation: Vidbook(created by students) Vidbook is a Youtube-like apps for internal video streaming to support university LMS LMS using Moodle Buffering often occurs when playing an embedded video in the Learning Management Systems from Youtube as it requires a lot of bandwidth

Summary • University roles are significant in ICT Development and Innovation Growth, and we will continue to work in this area • UNSYIAH-ADOC 2.0 Project is beneficial for many people and it transfers knowledge of ICT to those who needs and it reduces the gap between those who have access to ICT technology and those who don’t, such as children, women, students, and orphans • UNSYIAH-ADOC mobile center deliver trainings and reach remote communities • As a closing remark, we would like to share a short video about our deliver and reach activity done by UNSYIAH-ADOC early this year
