  4. Turn the “you” message into an “I” message • Scenario: Jennifer, a classmate, keeps borrowing your things without asking. This time she broke your brand new pencil. • “You” Message: “you always take other people’s things without asking. You’re just inconsiderate.” • “I” message?

  6. Stop-Think-Act Model Use your “thought-stopper” Don’t do something you will be sorry for. Slow down. Count to Ten. Take a deep breath

  7. Stop-Think-Act Model cont. Ask yourself: What is the problem? What is my best choice here? What do I really want to happen? What is the right thing to do? Who can help me?

  8. Stop-Think-Act Model Make a smart choice Make a plan. Act on your plan. Avoid, Escape, Refuse!!

  9. The Problem……. • Two younger kids come tearing down the hall at school and one bumps into you. This makes you mad. You hate being bumped like that. You are getting ready to hit the kid. • What do you do????
