  1. LARP QXF plan G. Ambrosio Lab Coordination Meeting March 21, 2013

  2. Assumptions • We need the first short model ASAP • All US labs start QXF work by making short coils (critical path) • Use as much as possible available infrastructure and equipment • Assembly of SQXF1 at LBNL • LQXF test facility not available before 2016 • LQXF plans delayed for SQXF work • LQXF plans delayed by 6 months • Limited budget • No need of new infrastructure • SQXF structure can be procured by CERN

  3. Plans for SQXF1 • Coil fabrication: • Winding & curing at FNAL • Reaction & Impregnation at BNL and LBNL • One coil at FNAL in preparation for LQXF coils • Trace development at LBNL • First “good coil” tested in mirror structure (FNAL) • CERN: W&C, R&I • Structure assembly at LBNL • Two structures procured by CERN: one for LARP one for CERN • Test at FNAL • At 2.2 K with present set-up • Need top-head upgrade for 1.9 K

  4. Plans after SQXF1 • SQXF: • Coil Winding & Curing at CERN (FNAL as backup) • Coil Reaction & Impregnation at LBNL and CERN • Structure assembly at LBNL or CERN • Test at FNAL or CERN • LQXF: • Coil Winding & Curing at FNAL • Coil Reaction & Impregnation at BNL and FNAL • Structure assembly at LBNL • Test at FNAL (horizontal test facility)

  5. Schedule • We need the first short model ASAP • All US labs start QXF work by making short coils (critical path)

  6. Schedule Milestones • SQXF coil fabrication start: 03/14 • SQXF mirror test: 01/15 • SQXF1 test: 05/15 • SQXF1b test: 12/15 • LQXF coil fabrication start: 01/15 • LQXF1 test: 01/16 • LQXF1b test: 07/16 • LQXF2 test: 01/17 • LQXF2b/3 test: 0717
