Organizational Goals Develop a broader ITS constituency Educate policy makers (e.g., agency administrators, county commissioners, mayors, planning commissions, etc.) on benefits of continued operations and maintenance and how ITS can help Inform our members about national directions and technologies Provide forums that allow members to collectively exchange ideas, share experiences, and meet new challenges

Networking and Outreach • 10 networking opportunities in 2009 attended by more than 600 people • 2009 chapter meeting highlights • Legislative update • Arterial ITS deployment in Gwinnett • TRIP Program • ITS in Action at Ga. Tech • Column promoting ITS in each “Georgia Engineer” Magazine – 10,000 subscribers • ITS Georgia Knowledgebase cited in research papers

Current ITS Status in GA • Currently covers 195 interstate miles • App. 487 CCTV cameras and 1,645 VDS stations • 110 Changeable Message Signs (CMS) • 140 Ramp Meters (168 by 2010) • HEROs • (Highway Emergency Response Operators): • 75 certified operators and 11 supervisors • Trained as first responders • 94,000 incidents managed in 2008 • Now on 30 routes (previously 21) • Patrols cover 280 interstate miles (previously 220)

  6. ITS Expansion: 2008-09 New Segments Added in 2009: * Cameras, Ramp Meters, Detection, HERO ** Traffic.com Detection and HERO only

  7. 2009 Accomplishments • Co-sponsor of: • Get Georgia Moving Coalition of 50+ groups statewide • Georgia Engineering Alliance Legislative Committee • Created scholarship to promote the study of ITS at Georgia University System • Annually support the “Transportation Engineers of the Future” scholarship fund • Active supporter of GDOT in deployment of ITS technology • ITS America certificate of excellence for ITS emerging practices and deployments
