Introduction • Central Statistical Organization • Base year from 1999-2000 to 2004-05 • NNP (1950-51) 2,55,405 crore • NNP (2011-12) 45,49,652 crore • Modest growth of 4.7 percent • During the 21 years 1991-2011-12 the rate of growth has been 6.4 percent • During the eleventh plan 2007-2012 NNP registered a growth of 7.7 percent

  3. Main Features of NNP growth • Erratic growth • Growth rate fluctuates with fluctuation in agriculture growth • The growth rate at best is modest • Post 1991 reform growth is less fragile

  4. Per Capita National Income • Per capital income at current price : 264 (1950-51), 740 (1970-71), 5621 (1990-91), 60603 (2011-12) • Per capital income at constant price : 7114 (1950-51), 37851 (2011-12) • 2.7 percent increase in per capita income over a period of 62 years

  5. Service Led Growth • 2011-12: service sector (59%), Agriculture (14%) industry (27 %) • High growth rate in communication, business services and finance • Structural transformation • Question of sustainability of service led growth
