  1. Modern Madness When you work hard, good things happen!

  2. What is Modern Madness? • Everybody loves this time of year … “March Madness.” The NCAA tournament has long been one of the most exciting spectacles in all of sports. People love to see the huge upsets that often take place. Many people also love to root for their favorite team or under dog as they march towards the basketball championship. • Next week Modern Madness is coming to Gahanna Lincoln High School as all of Mr. Ziegler, Mrs. Matejic, Mr. Castorena, Mr. Cullivan, Mr. Kovach, and Mr. Branick’sclasses will be participating in this annual tournament.

  3. The Bracket

  4. How do your grades factor in? • The four highest grades in the class at the beginning of the tournament will be awarded the #1 seed in each “region.” • All other participants will choose a “seed” randomly. • This should lead to some interesting match-ups throughout the tournament! • The four regions of the tournament become study groups for the week. At the beginning of each class there will be time for your region to review & help prepare each other for your match.

  5. How is the “madness” set up? • The overall championship competition is a single-elimination tournament. • Everyone will start in the “Class Championship Bracket” and anyone who loses will then be placed in the “Toilet Bowl Bracket” and be responsible for helping other members of their regions that are still in the championship competition prepare & win.

  6. What are the rewards for Modern Madness? • 1. Every student who completes their homework each night will receive a homework completion grade (20 points) (100 points total) • This is a GREAT way to raise one’s grade easily while at the same time having some fun! • 2. The REGION that produces the class champion will all earn a homework pass. • 3. The Class Champion is EXEMPT from the class test over the World War II Unit. • 4. Any champion that goes on to win the Grand Championship will receive a T-Shirt and live on in Modern Madness immortality.

  7. How are the “Games”played? • 1. Modern Madness does notfeature actual basketball playing. Instead there is a marking placed on a specific spot on the floor (10 feet) & you will use a nerf basketball to attempt to score. • 2. Each game features a set of questions based off of the homework from the night before. When you come into class each day your group will be given time to review together, and then we play. All homework is worth individual homework points. • 3. The players for each round will stand side-by-side to compete. The teacher will read a question out loud and the first person to “buzz” in will have the opportunity to answer the question correctly for 1 point. If answered correctly, they will then shoot the ball & attempt to make it for another point. • 4. Each round is played to a different point total. The 1st round is up to 3 points, 2nd round is up to 4 points, 3rdround is up to 5, and the Class Championship Game is played to 6 points. • 5. In the event that someone has not won the game by the end of the third question, the game will go into overtime. This means the person with the higher ‘seed’ will have a chance to win the game by making a basket, it will go back & forth until someone wins.

  8. Mr. Ziegler’s Coaching Advice! • Work hard & have fun with this! With hard work & some luck YOU can be crowned the Modern Madness Grand Champion! • Have your parents quiz you at home. • Find YOUR shot and practice, practice, practice and practice some more. • If you don't have the desire to play, please don't ruin it for those that do.
