Connections • Import your e-mail contacts • Reconnect with friends, former colleagues • Invite other professionals that you meet to connect, and make your invitation personal, not canned (310 characters) • Skip the salutation (LinkedIn adds a salutation with the person’s name) • Check spelling

  7. Have a Profile That is Complete • A head shot photo • A Headline that describes your skills and/or job you are seeking • Add a professional summary. Think of it as your professional elevator speech in print • Add specialties/keywords in the Summary • Add Experience (can upload or cut and paste from Resume) • Add Skills (50) • Ask for recommendations from connections, including for volunteer activities. Give recommendations (without being asked.) • You can include 3 URLs in your profile, that are indexed by Google, as well as personalize your own LinkedIn URL

Have a Profile That is Complete More searchable fields: • Certifications • Honors and Awards (Title and Description are searchable) • Projects (Project and Description are searchable) • Patents (Title and Summary are searchable) • Publications (Title and Summary are searchable) • Volunteer Experience & Causes (Role and Description are searchable) • Profile Language • Company • Location • Industry • Skills – up to 50

  9. Groups • You can join up to 50 Groups (not counting subgroups) • But when you join, participate. The more involved you are the more respect you will earn and the higher you will rise in search results.
