  3. City, Township and Combined Owned Fire Departments • Managed by elected official(s). • Defined by city or township boundaries. • Financials are overseen by the State Board of Accounts and Department of Local Government and Finance. • Have the ability to levy taxes and secure loans.

  4. Volunteer Incorporations • Provide Fire Protection to designated area. • Operate by contract. • No ability to levy taxes. • No oversight of budgets by government agencies.

Growth in Fire Department = Growth in Financial Management • Fire Budget is adopted by Township Board and disbursed by the Township Trustee. • Fire Budget is certified and audited by the Department of Local Government and Finance and the State Board of Accounts. • In 2007, $799,632 of $846,021 was disbursed related to fire department. • Processed 807 checks including payroll checks.
