You will be able to… • Observe values in an image - determine five levels of values • Draw self-portraits using a grid - integrate math skills • Compare how artists get ideas - See how artists use technology in a work of art. • Compare and contrast styles of portraits thru time. Gain appreciation for the work of John Singer Sargent • Develop shading skills thru a self portrait value study • Work an idea in multiple media - translate drawing to cut paper "layers" - problem solving skills in determining values in colored paper • Demonstrate craftsmanship in cutting and gluing portrait.

  6. For today • Project Graduation t-shirt design to Seniors-required-due next Monday-will count as one of your sketchbook drawings • REALLY NEED TO START WORKING ON YOUR DESIGN • Explain other assignments • collect progress reports at the end of class • CLEAN UP AT 12:55

  7. SKETCHBOOKK DRAWINGS ARE DUE TODAY • Turn in sketchbook folders • Turn in sketchbooks • Label each drawing • Sketchbook drawing # 1 ,#2,etc. • I will return all drawings Monday • Progress reports will go out Monday

The Process:-cut paper • Enlarge your photo to a 18x 24 sheet of paper • Break your image down to simple shapes –like a poster(POSTERIZE) • You are to use 5 types or colors of paper –only 5-your darkest colors match up to your darkest values –and so on… • Fill in each part of your picture with 1 inch pieces of color • 200 word essay • Good Luck!
