Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of the skin by melanin, or skin pigment called Melasma. Melanocytes are the cells which cause melanin. melanocyte cells contains melanosomes which contains melanin. Melanin absorbs UV light and is usually brown or black in color. It absorbs sunlight to protect skin cells from damage caused by UV radiation. Skin changes into brown color when melanosomes leave melanocytes and move to the outer layer of the skin.
