  9. Find the cue words CAVES Caves are holes in the ground, usually hollowed out by water. Rainwater trickles down through the ground; consequently, the minerals in the rocks are dissolved. Therefore, hollows and tunnels are formed. Some caves are very long passages, though other caves are huge open spaces. You will find stalactites hanging down from the roofs of caves. Though caves have no light, many animals live in caves. Many are blind. Thus they depend on smell, touch, or echoes to find their way. Bats, especially, prefer to live in caves. Other cave animals include birds and fish. Therefore, caves play an important part in sustaining life.

  10. Find the Signal Statements Animal Communication Communication means to pass on messages and information. It should be noted that animals use sound, sight, and movement to communicate. Also, it should be noted they use scent, taste, touch, and electrical signals to communicate. A central issue in studying animal behavior is the extent to which they can think. The examples that follow demonstrate they certainly can. Some animals puff themselves up to make themselves appear bigger that they really are. Of course, this makes other animals think twice about attacking them. Wolves communicate with body language. Their ability to communicate with each other is a significant factor in their survival. Still, wolves are a threatened animal. This is a primary concern of many environmentalists. Of course, some people such as ranchers would be happy to see wolves disappear. There are many other kinds of animal communication. It all boils down to which animal and the purpose for their communication. The basic concept here is that just like humans, animals express themselves.
