  2. This course has been structured to teach students the fundamentals of pre-Algebra. Topics of discussion will include: • Connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division • Completing the understanding of division of fractions • Extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers • Writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations • Developing understanding of statistical thinking. • Source: http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Content/6/introduction/ Course Description

  3. Students grades will be based as follows: • A: 90-100, B: 80-89, C: 70-79, D: 60-69, F: 59 or below • Tests are 40% of the grade • Quizzes are 30% of the grade • Projects/Carnegie is 20% • Classwork /Homework is 10% of the grade Grading Policy

Students are expected to bring: • Pencil/ Red Pen / Highlighter • 3 ring Folder with textbook pages of current chapter • Previous class notes • Any supplemental material • Class Fees • Students are to use the textbook set of Bridges to Algebra by Carnegie Learning • Students are expected watch any supplemental videos that are posted on school website. This supplemental videos are usually given before a topic so we can have a basis for conversation at the beginning of next class. Class and Supplemental Materials

Students are to come prepared and ready to learn • After 3 verbal warnings and a call home student will receive a detention for not improving or modifying his/her behavior. • Electronic devices are not allowed in class. (It will be confiscated and sent to the main office per school policy). • Eating and Drinking are not allowed in my classroom unless a student has a valid medical reason that has been cleared by the office (i.e. a diabetic student). • Bathroom passes are for emergencies only- will be given four passes per nine week unless a student has a valid medical reason that has been cleared by the office. • Complete their homework daily and continually studying for the course.
