  2. Step One – Alphabetize! Look at the author’s last name for each source. Put this into alphabetical order! If you do not have an author for your article, you will use the first word of the title. Once you have the correct order, label the each article as 1st or 2nd.

  5. Source Cards: Direct Quote Identical to the original, using a narrow segment of the source. They must match the source document word for word and must be attributed to the original author. “My grandmother's greatest gift was tolerance.   6. Source Cards: Summarizing • involves putting the main idea(s) into your own words, including only the main point(s). Once again, it is necessary to attribute summarized ideas to the original source. Summaries are significantly shorter than the original and take a broad overview of the source material. Original Summary ‘And what’s more, our white dentist believed that Indians only felt half as much pain as white people did, so he only gave us half the Novocain.’ Native Americans faced discrimination and racism (Alexie 2).
