  1. The Epistle to the Galatians Teachers of the Word: Gal 6:6-10, Part 1 • Gal 6: 6 NKJV ‘Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.’ • Doesn’t’ this seem to say the opposite of what we might expect? • The student’s job is to listen and learns only? • How does this relate to the section just before, Gal 6:2-5? • Is this simply applauding the teacher or acknowledging the value of ‘all’ good things’ being taught? • all - including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole :- all (manner of, means), alway (-s), any (one), × daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, × thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever – Stonrg’s. • good things –agathos, a primary word 1 Nov 21, 2010 Bob Eckel

  2. The Epistle to the Galatians Teachers of the Word: Gal 6:6-10, Part 1 • 1 Thess 5:12 ‘And we urge you, brethren, to recognize (get to know) those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,’ • But in context this is more than recognition, but sharing or communicating with fellowship in an atmosphere of Grace. • Remember, it’s the Word, logos, that is being taught! • And often, the verb to share, koinōneō, has material meaning. • Rom 15:26, II Cor 8:2-4, 9:13 • Why not the bad things (kakos) too? • Is this type of communication with teachers simply, and only, the way of the world? • Gal 6: 7 – NJKV ‘Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.’ 2 Nov 21, 2010 Bob Eckel

  3. The Epistle to the Galatians Teachers of the Word: Gal 6:6-10, Part 1 • A familiar passage, yes? • Be not deceived, by whom? • Is this the legal expositor? • mock, myktērizō - from a derivative of the base of (mukaomai) (meaning snout, as that whence lowing proceeds, to sneer with the nostrils drawn up in contempt); to make mouths at, i.e. ridicule. • Generic man, anthropos, sows and reaps: • The seed and harvest scenario. • But as stated, it is God who is not mocked. • We might be able to fool our fellow man, but not God. • Why would we expect anything else from such a relationship? • We can sow barley, wheat, tares, sparingly, bountifully, or nothing - and the crop is as expected.. 3 Nov 21, 2010 Bob Eckel

  4. The Epistle to the Galatians Teachers of the Word: Gal 6:6-10, Part 1 • Job 4:8 ‘Even as I have seen, Those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same.’ • Proverbs 11:18 ‘The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward.’ • Hosea 8:7 ‘They sow the wind, And reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no bud; It shall never produce meal. If it should produce, aliens would swallow it up.’ • Hosea 10:12 ‘Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it istime to seek the Lord, till He comes and rains righteousness on you.’ • Rom 2:6-10 • How many of you think that this relates to our giving in support of our spiritual leaders? • Either way doesn’t this appear to have a legal base? • Who’s doing the sowing anyway? • Gal 6:8 - NKJV ‘For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.’ 4 Nov 21, 2010 Bob Eckel

  5. The Epistle to the Galatians Teachers of the Word: Gal 6:6-10, Part 1 • A very important and clarifying statement to follow that stated in verse 7 is ‘he who sows’ – present active participle • An ongoing process • shall reap – future active indicative • A yet to be experienced consequence that is factual! • corruption vs. life everlasting – is this eternal salvation? • Much more consistent with the result of works in the presence or absence of the Holy Spirit’s leading in our lives. • I Cor 3:12-15; II Cor 5:9,10 • John Gill – ‘shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting; in the use of such spiritual means, though not as meritorious, or as causes, he shall attain to, and enjoy eternal happiness in the other world; or of, and by the Spirit of God, by whose grace and strength he sows, and does all the good things he does, by and of him sanctifying him, and making him meet for it, and not of himself, or any works of righteousness done by him, shall he inherit eternal life; which is the pure gift of God through Jesus Christ, and bestowed as a reward of his own grace.’ 5 Nov 21, 2010 Bob Eckel

  6. The Epistle to the Galatians Teachers of the Word: Gal 6:6-10, Part 1 • Rom 8:11 ‘But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.’ • Rom 13:14 ‘But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.’ • John 6:27 "Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him." • And this is an act of faith, nothing more or less. • Do we believe God and what He has revealed? • See ‘None But the Hungry Heart, Nov 21 How can any believer not see and understand the two natures we believers all carry with us? 6 Nov 21, 2010 Bob Eckel
