  2. 1) Imperialism- The domination by one country of the political, economic or cultural life of another country or region 2) Colony- A region or country that is directly controlled by an imperial power 3) Sphere of Influence- A region where the imperial power has exclusive investment or trading privileges 4) Protectorate- A country that had its own government but its polices are directed by the imperial power 5)Suez Canal- Man-made waterway that linked the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea

  3. 6) Zulus- Powerful war-like tribe from South Africa 7) Boers- Dutch Settlers that controlled South Africa 8) Boer War- Fight over control of South Africa between the British and the Boers 9) British East India Company-British Company that became involved in India’s political and economic affairs 10) Commercial Colonialism- Foreign power that controlled another country’s trade and used the military to control its interests
