  1. Glaciers By: Brooke Kemler & Marisa Gutierrez

  2. What is a Glacier? Glaciers by definition are large masses of snow recrystallized ice and rock debris that accumulate in great quantities and begin to flow outwards and downwards under the pressure of their own weight. Glaciers form when yearly snowfall in a region exceeds the amount of ice and snow that melts in a summer. Massive amounts of material accumulate in very small periods of geologic time. 3. Glacier Pictures • Before Global Warming Began… • This is a picture from ISS 009 196163921

  4. The Current Changes in our Environment • This topic is current to about 4 years, or since 2003. • The changes in this picture can be seen in our environment because in this specific glacier picture, the glaciers are almost completely frozen with pretty much no melting.

  5. Glacier Information • Glaciers are a huge part of our lives. • They hold about 3% of our fresh water supply and they give polar bears a home. • Due to global warming, these polar bears have been dying rapidly. The thin ice breaks as they’re standing on it and they fall in. The cold water is too cold, therefore they drown. • The glaciers, if melted far enough, will flood out parts of our Earth, when already 70% of it is covered with water. • Because of the ozone layer dissolving, the sun is getting more harsh on the Earth.

  6. A Baby Polar Bear • Please help me, I don’t want to die!!!

  7. During global warming ISS 009 196181530

  8. During Global Warming Conditions • This picture’s currency is about 2006. • The conditions that can be seen in this picture are that the glaciers have melted drastically since 2003 and are continuously melting as we go about our daily routines.

  9. Greenland’s Huge Icecap • The glaciers shown in this picture have melted rapidly since 2002. • It was measured by NASA airborne radar laser and they appear to be thinning out and shrinking. This is also causing water levels to rise. • Around the globe, sea levels have risen about 6 inches higher in the last 100 years, thanks to warmer sea waters.

  10. Who is Affected by Global Warming? • Polar bears are affected, penguins, humans, plants, weather conditions (snow, rain, ect.), ocean life, and our air supply. • All areas of the world are affected by global warming, especially the colder places like Iceland, Greenland, Alaska, and all of the oceans.

  11. Greenland’s Glaciers Continued… • Glaciologist Dr. Mark Meier was interviewed in 2002 about his estimations on sea level. He said that according to his thoughts, 0.65 feet of water or more could be added to our oceans in this century.

  12. Why is it important to know the effects of Global Warming? • It is important to know the effects of global warming because if we don’t stop polluting our earth, the temperatures will rise dramatically, animals will die, and even generations to come will not see the animals that we have the privilege to see today. PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO PREVENT GLOBAL WARMING!!!

  13. This is what will happen...

  14. How Can We Help With Global Warming??? • We can help with global warming by carpooling, throwing away our trash in the proper disposable cans, recycling, trying to cut down on aerosol sprays, and dispose of chemicals in proper disposable cans.

  15. We will BURN !!!
