  3. Everyone is equal • Many different paths to god.-Sikhism not the only one • Cannot cut their hair-5 K’s. • Karma-Do something good, good things happen in later life, vice versa. • Great respect for animals-Beef is holy-No tobacco, alcohol, or non-medical drugs.

  5. Total of 10 Gurus.Guru=Priest, Rabbi, Minister, etc. • One god they pray to.-Neither male nor female.-Is everywhere, essence, eternal. • Guru Nanak started Sikhism.-Travelled preaching the practice of Sikhism.-Retired at age 50. • Last Guru, Gobind Singh died, after no more Humans were Gurus.

The religious texts for Sikhism and Why they are Important • Main Sikhism book = the Guru Grath Sahib • The Guru Grath Sahib important because written by first Guru= Guru Nahak • Has 974 hymns by the first Guru • There is also gutka = condensed version of Guru Grath Sahib • Contains most popular hymns by Guru Nahak • Both books contain right way to live

The Holidays and Festivals that the Sikhs celebrate • Baisakhi = celebrating the Indian harvest season = get together and sing hymns • Diwaili = festival of rights because Guru HarGobind out of jail • Diwaili = Festival of lights = hundreds of lights, fireworks, and bonfires • HolaMochalla = Anandpur India = March 17= Guru Gobind used to organized military exercises and mock battles for entertainment = now 1000s attend

  8. What traditional Clothing do Sikhs wear? • Men wear turbans • Young men wear small pieces of clothing to cover their hair until they can tie their own turban. • Moms and dads teach their children to tie turbans.

The beginning • First guru is nanak • Nanak was born in April 15 1469 in Talwandi • Talwandi=Pakistan • Nanak moved to the city sultanpur to live with sister nanaki and husben • Nanak went to river did not come back for 3days on 3 day came back and sayed he had been in drectconmuication with the ultimate reality/divine one
