Function
Function

The function of the product is important for defining the functional unit. Following the LCA guideline, the function of the wall was described as:

’ climate shield (watertight, insulating), "face" of the building and should therefore have a nice appearance.’

In addition the wall has other defining parameters, such as heat and sound insulating properties. These should be included where they affect the performance and type and quantity of materials used. All utilities affecting the dimensions should be included in the functional unit, as far as possible.

The functional unit for this case is a Danish house wall, 2.8m high, enclosing a floor area of 10x10m (excl. doors and windows), with a 60 year life.
