  2. Components • Paper • Portfolio (e-portfolio) • Product • Presentation

  3. Paper – must complete in Eng 3 • Persuasive paper on a debatable issue • Honors 6-7 pages; Standard 4-5 • MLA format (1 inch margins, Times New Roman, double-spaced, etc.) • Must include a Works Cited page in MLA format • Must include a student-created graphic (chart, graph) • Must include an interview with an expert on the topic (over 21, familiar with topic, not related to writer) • Students may not enroll in Eng 4 without successful completion of the paper • Edited by peers and me • Graded on a pass/fail basis by the Grad Proj Committee

Portfolio – Eng 3 and Eng 4 • Created on Google Sites (Gmail account required) • Junior year – Paper Proposal, Paper with outline and Works Cited, Resume (Graded by me) • Senior year – Personal essay, Reflection letter, Letter to Judges, Steps, Obstacles, & Successes of Product, with evidence of the product (Graded pass/fail by Grad Project Committee) • Presented to panel of judges during the Presentation

  5. Product – Completed in Eng 4 • Hands-on experience dealing with some aspect of the researched topic • Must be an extension of students’ abilities • 15 hours required • Volunteering is not a complete product, but may be part of the product • Must have a mentor (over 21, familiar with topic, non-relative) • Graded by Grad Proj Committee Examples: A physical product (construction of an item) A production (recital, performance) Taking a class (Black Belt certification, pilot’s license, etc.)

  6. Presentation – Presented at the end of Eng 4 • Called Senior Board Night • Panel of three judges • Student presents product, portfolio • Discusses steps, successes, and obstacles • Multimedia presentation with e-portfolio • Graded (pass/fail) on presentation skills (poise, speaking rate, etc.) by three judges

  7. Junior Paper Topics • Topics must Essential Questions that have a yes/no response • For example: • Should young girls be able to participate in beauty pageants? • Should industry explore biofuels as a main energy source? • Should organ transplants involve animals? • It has no right or wrong answer; it’s debatable • It may start with Should, How, Why, Which, or What if - as opposed to What is • Keep the product in mind. You must submit a product idea with the essential question.

  8. What’s due: • Paper Proposal (Committee determines pass/fail) – Due Sept 16 • Annotated Bibliography – Due Sept 25 • Outline – Due Sept 30 • Rough Draft – Due Oct 10 • Final Draft – Due Oct 30
