  1. Round 1Learning design workshopYork, May 2010

  2. How did the game work

  3. Game • Very practical • Cards worked very well • Visual cues helped trigger ideas and discussions • More creative and engaging • Helped to clarify issues with council • Provided a focus where resource should be committed

  4. Game cont’d… • Game was good in terms of thinking about what is on offer in terms of products and linking to aims / resources • Helped to link delivery methods with resources required • We liked - gave framework for planning future action • Structured

  5. What worked well • Co-design already done - this format is useful • Story-telling element is more useful than usual PowerPoint formats - would be useful to do with elected members • Very well - opportunities to explore what is required more accurately • Having specific example helped develop the discussion

  6. What worked well cont’d… • Useful in providing extra thought around what’s available • Helped to confirm our thinking about how we were going to work with our customers

  7. How could we improve it

  8. Improvements • Offer opportunity to discuss safeguarding • guarantee buy-in • Create pre-conditions with learners to help them open up • Need to ensure learners are engaging • different levels of governance • More preparation information and bit more time • More informal • Use of presentation stop / start times

  9. Improvements cont’d… • Want to know more about the other projects presented • Peer support network with other LIA winners (virtual COP) • In a real situation - may be have a discussion before playing the game • Some discussion before game about various learning methods would have been useful • Experiences of how well they have worked for other people

  10. What needs to happen next

  11. Reporting mechanisms info with LGA / IDeA • We’d like to look at opportunities to link with LIA’s and share spatial resources • Discussions between LIA’s and IDeA regarding how to source learners • Need ownership • board and trust all actions • Longer time period needed to spend cash • 18 months

  12. We need to firm up our learning offers, decide ‘unit costs’ for offers so we know how much we can offer and to how many ‘learners’ • COPs demonstrations • Winners peer support network • Demonstrate uses / conducting of knowledge cafes / pubs • mentoring (how IDeA sees as best practice) • practicalities of delivering things

  13. What support do you need from IDeA

  14. IDeA support • Knowledge sharing of who they know want to work with us • Resource implications helpful • E-tools training - COPs, blogging, hotseats, etc • Use IDeA as a practical guidance • Infrastructure • QA process from IDeA support • Administration • Identification of potential learners

  15. IDeA support cont’d… • Knowledge bank (on-going) of what is working for other LIA leads… what’s the best learning offer tool for particular circumstances and what’s not working • Lonely hearts service is really important

  16. Any tools you want to explore?

  17. Tools • Can we have the cards? • Hotseat (COP) • ‘The Game’ - could we use it with our customers to determine what tools they would like to use • What about LIA Blogs? from themes - for us to keep up-to-date on what others are doing
