  2. GHTC 2015: original plans and results • A conference at least a good as last year • GHTC 2014 was successful: 150 papers, 300 attendees • GHTC 2015:100 contributions and 230 attendees • We had another outstanding team of volunteers • We tried to raise the level this year • Shift the focus to feature more practitioners - success • Network better in the NGO world - success • Bring in more industrial engagement – success • Related events: Symposium, ODK workshop, etc • Begin engaging the entrepreneurial community – not yet • Did not arrange a hackathon in time • Did not try for a ‘startup weekend’

  4. GHTC 2015: material and money • This year there are two important changes: • All the papers are Open Access on Xplore as of Jan16 • We recorded most technical track talks on Camtasia • These are entrusted to the San Diego Section • The finances were a nice surprise: • We worried that low publicity, which resulted in fewer contributions, would put us at financial risk • In fact, our audience development publicity paid off • We were also VERY cost conscious. • Open question: we got $40.1K from NASA. • Our surplus will depend on how we account for qualifying expenses

  5. GHTC leads a team of HT conferences • North America • IEEE IHTC 2016, in Canada, May/June, Region 7 • IEEE GHTC 2016, in Seattle, October, Region 6 • Europe • ISTAS 2015, in Dublin, Ireland on November 11 - 12, Region 8 • Africa • IST-Africa Week 2016, in South Africa, May 10 – 13, Region 8 • Asia & Pacific • R10-HTC 2015, in Cebu City, Philippines on December 9-12, Region 10 • http://ieeehtc2015ph.wix.com/htc2015#!home/c24vq • IEEE ISTAS 2016, in Kerala, India, October 22–23, Region 10 • South America • tbd

  6. GHTC mission: feed “feet on the ground” • Papers will be “open access” on Xplore! • Capture and distribute Camtasia recordings • Mentor SIGHT chapters about: • Industry & distribution • relating to NGOs • entrepreneurial community • Also provide papers and Camtasia to Engineers without Borders (EWB) and Engineers for Change (E4C) • EWB and E4C get money from IEEE HAC

  7. GHTC 2016 status so far • Joe was drafted to repeat as chair 2 recently. • Strong vice chair and local arrangements • Strong treasurer and vice treasurer • The Program committee was assembled this week! • They need the strong list of track chairs • There are a lot of other positions to recruit and decide • Draft MOU done, but needs to add a lot of technical co-sponsor contacts

  8. GHTC 2016 plans • Publicity: proactive • Write articles for all technical cosponsors • including descriptions of GHTC 2015 and CFP for GHTC 2016 • Industrial patronage: • Likely to increase participation from Microsoft, Boeing and Global Good • Possible new industrial sponsors: Vulcan, Siemens & Qualcomm • We need them to replace IEEE and NASA funds • Focus: • Jackie Stenson & Roger Johnson propose to co-chair a new commercialization track

  9. whi GHTC 2016 Wish List • Program: • Add commercialization • Consolidate the other areas all technical cosponsors • Continue the move towards the entrepreneurial community • Include meetings with SIGHT, E4C and EWB • Finances: • Maintain Open Access on Xplore • Find a way to budget travel assistance for ‘practitioners’, from R8, R9 and R10 • Organization: • Add to and refine the playbook, so it helps us for 2016 and gets the 2017 off to a better start
