After the sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
There was a violent earthquake, for angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
His appearance was like lightning, and His clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of Him that they shook and became like dead men.
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here;
He is risen just as He said.”
He is not here;
He is risen!
1. Alleluia! Alleluia!
Hearts to heav'n and voices raise;
Sing to God a hymn of gladness,
Sing to God a hymn of praise.
He who on the cross as Savior
For the world's salvation bled,
Jesus Christ, the King of Glory,
Now is risen from the dead.
2. Now the iron bars are broken,
Christ from death to life is born,
Glorious life, and life immortal,
On this resurrection morn;
Christ has triumphed, and we conquer
By His mighty enterprise,
We with Him to life eternal
By His resurrection rise.
