  2. Defining the Problem • The community college transfer student who seeks the bachelor’s degree but fails negatively affects many: • Self • Family • Community college • Four year college • Society • World Speaker: Tylor Carr

  3. Explaining the Goal • What would cause the community college transfer student to fail? • We brainstormed for these possible factors. • We came up with 8 hypotheses and formed 8 research teams. Speaker: Mike Eshel

Poor Physical or Mental Health: attend workshops; good peer and family relationships; don’t take on too much Working: Time management skills or classes; work with a counselor; try to get job on campus. Excessive Partying: More school-sponsored events; stricter policies re: underage drinking Homesickness: Be active and involved; join clubs Loss of Focus: Join a study group; specified advisors; faculty members involvement Procrastination: Getting helps from school resources; building up your own confidence High Cost of Tuition: scholarships and grants; better fixed tuition rates; Lack of Academic Readiness: focus on individual learning; do more HW and studying; take challenging classes in high school.
