  5. Situated on the Spanish Mediterranean Coast, the city of Valencia was founded by the romans on the banks of the Turia river in 138 B.C. Valencia ranks third in Spain by its administrative importance and by population, with more than 800.000 inhabitants in the city and approximately 1.800.000 in the surrounding metropolitan area.

  6. The climate in the city is one of the mildest in Europe: it enjoys a Mediterranean climate with an average temperature of above 17º, with hot summers and moderate winters.

  7. Important cultural institutions, such as City of Arts and Sciences, has an intense cultural life and historical heritage. Valencia’s traditional festival is “Las Fallas”, which is associated with fire and fireworks. Its traditional dish “paella” is known worldwide. Valencia host important international sport events (F1 Valencia Street Circuit, MotoGP Grand Prix and was the site of the 2007 America’s Cup)

  9. Over five centuries of history The Universitat de València is the outcome of more than five centuries of history that have led to the accumulation of knowledge and unique documentary treasures, making it one of the top Spanish universities.

  10. In the 13th century, higher education was establish in the city of Valencia, obtaining in 1245 a StudiumGeneraleinstitution from Pope Innocent IV. However, not until 1499 did the Juries of Valencia draw up the Constitucions of what was to become the first Universitat de València, authorized by the Pope Alexander VI Bull on 1501 and the royal privilege of Ferdinand II the Catholic on 1502.

For more than 500 years, the development of the Universitat de València has run in parallel with the development of the city and has been an inextricable part of its urban fabric, creating spaces for teaching, research, creation and dissemination of culture and science as well as knowledge transfer.
