  1. How are our Constitutional/Charter Rights Protected?

  2. The push of Entrenchment… • People pushed to have our Charter be entrenched within the Constitution • This was important to make sure that every right and freedom was protected…by anyone or anything • The following are ways we keep our rights and freedoms safe

  3. The constitution is the LAW of the LAND • It says how our country should be ran and by what rules • Everyone has to follow the Constitution, no matter who you are

  4. The rights and privileges of Canada’s two official languages are protected in ALL government institutions

  5. The Supreme Court of Canada makes the final decision if an individual or collective group claim to be treated unfairly • Even the government MUST follow this decision

  6. First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people are involved in changes to the Constitution

  7. All Provincial and Federal leaders in GOVERNMENT (not including opposition) MUST agree before any changes can be made to the Constitution

  8. The MNAA (Metis Nation of Alberta Association) represent the Metis people of Alberta in regards to land, harvesting, and any right-violations

  9. The ACFA (l’Associationcanadienne-francaise de l’Alberta) represents the Francophone community in regards to culture and media, education, and political rights.

  10. The FNA (First Nations Authorities) were created to help protect the First Nations peoples through police services, health agreements, and financial support.

  11. In Summary… • There are many ways our rights and freedoms are protected within Canada • The Charter of Rights and Freedoms that is entrenched within the Constitution, is more than a set of rules…it shapes who we are as Canadians. • Because of our Charter, no one can EVER take away our rights as individuals or as a collective group!
