  2. Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA) offers a rigorous accredited concurrent enrollment program that allows qualified students to experience a university course in accordance with the same standards expected of all Syracuse University courses.

SUPA'S Mission • To give qualified students access to advanced learning by offering innovative and challenging Syracuse University courses • To increase students' college readiness by providing the tools necessary for post-secondary success • To provide continuous professional development for teachers and ongoing dialogue between university faculty and high school teachers • To smooth the transition from high school to post-secondary education • Project Advance is NOT a recruiting tool for Syracuse University, and it is NOT a for-profit program

Ensuring the Academic Quality of SU Courses in High Schools • Syracuse University courses offered through Project Advance are designed to be as identical as possible to their on-campus counterparts, and are strictly limited to regular SU courses in the university catalog. • Departmental review and approval of new schools, as well as of new instructors for Summer Institute training by SU faculty. • Ongoing professional development requirements for all teachers to ensure continued certification as an SU adjunct instructor • Regular campus visits (once a semester) by SU faculty and SUPA administrators to meet with students and discuss college culture and academics, participate in classroom discussions, and to review student work.

Benefits to SUPA courses: • Receive College Credits and a Syracuse University Transcript • Authentic University Courses • College Readiness • Students assessed throughout the course, rather than on a single test day in May • Curriculum flexibility • $110 dollars per credit (before financial aid)

One three credit course offered through the SUPA program costs 330 dollars, compared to the following: • Rutgers - 3 credit course - 2,200 dollars ( in state students - 1000 dollars • Monmouth - 3 credit course - 2,379 dollars • Seton Hall - 3 credit course - 2,874 dollars • Rowan - 3 credit course - 2,500 dollars ( in state students - 960 dollars • College of NJ - 3 credit course - 2,079 dollars ( in state students - 1,038 dollars

SUPA Student Survey Results: • Developed more realistic expectations about academic challenges of college • Better prepared for the academic rigor of college • Improved study habits and time management skills • Improved writing and analytical skills for college • Increased confidence to succeed in college • Those who went on to take advanced courses in the same subject area at college reported that their grades were equal to or higher than their initial SU grade

  8. Teacher Qualifications & Requirements • Must have a Master's Degree • Must have a minimum of five years teaching experience • Must successfully complete a week-long course-specific summer workshop to receive an appointment as a SU adjunct instructor • Must attend at least one professional development seminar each semester to maintain their SU certification • Must meet once a semester with SU faculty members and Project Advance administrators to discuss the overall administration of the program

  9. SUPA by the Numbers • Six states ( NY, NJ, RI, MA, ME, MI) • Partnered with more than 200 high schools • Approximately 1000 teachers serving as instructors • Over 10,000 students with approximately 15,000 enrollments • Currently 38 SU courses offered in 24 different subject areas
