2010 2013 aig plan

2010- 2013 AIG Plan

  • In compliance with state guidelines, a new AIG plan was implemented to serve our AIG students in Cleveland County.

  • Mrs. Tench will be at SIS Monday through Friday all day.

Area of identification

Area of Identification

  • Students are placed in AIG according to their area of giftedness.

  • A student may show giftedness and qualify in reading, math, or in both areas.

Services needed

Services Needed

  • AIG students have a Differentiated Education Plan (DEP) that dictates their area of service.

  • Students are required to receive services in each of their identified areas of giftedness.

  • We are serving our students who are math or reading only when Mrs. McDowell is at our school. Students identified in reading and math will be served five times a week for one hour each day. This will be during our WIN time. Students go out for what they need.

  • Students will need to work hard during Enrichment. They will not receive grades or have homework assignments from AIG.

Needs determination team

Needs Determination Team

  • A Needs Determination Team (NDT) for the upcoming school year has been created.

  • The NDT will be responsible for looking at teacher referrals, student work samples, and testing information to make a recommendation for placement of new AIG students.

Placement of students

Placement of Students

  • Students are currently identified and placed in our AIG program based on their area of giftedness (reading and/or math).

  • Additional students can be placed in the program each year after going through the appropriate steps of the placement process.

  • Classroom teachers and parents need to make us aware of any students that may need to be brought to the NDT to begin a referral.

  • If you feel that a child is truly “gifted”, please make sure that work samples exemplify the true giftedness of the child.

When do aig classes begin

When Do AIG Classes Begin?

  • We plan to start following our AIG schedule on Tuesday, September 3rd. This will allow time for all our programs to be ready to serve students.

  • Mrs. McDowell and I will be using these first few days to meet with AIG parents to get DEP’s signed. Testing for students that have been referred to the NDT will be in October after EOG scores have been received.

Robotics

We will have three teams for 2013-2014. The three teams have already been determined. Students have been to a Robotics Camp provided by the school last year in June. We have selected students based on a rubric used by the county. The schedule for the year has been completed with general dates for competitions. Please feel free to ask any questions about this program.
