Climate Change: Should We Care? • Stand-up/Sit-down Activity • Stand up if: • You know what climate change is. • (Climate change = “Changes in long-term weather patterns caused by natural phenomena and human activities that affect the atmosphere through the build-up of greenhouse gases which trap heat and reflect it back to the earth’s surface.”) • You believe that climate change is a real concern. • You believe that climate change is a hoax. • You believe that climate change concerns your generation. • You believe that the world you know is at risk.

Climate Change – Should We Care? • Define climate change on handout: • Climate change = “Changes in long-term weather patterns caused by natural phenomena and human activities that affect the atmosphere through the build-up of greenhouse gases which trap heat and reflect it back to the earth’s surface.”) • Now: review Environment Canada’s Top Ten Weather Stories for 2012 • Rate 1-10 based on most impact • Write a polished paragraph in response to the question: Should young Canadians care about climate change?
