The Inventors • The first electric toaster was invented by Crompton and Co. in 1893 • Re-invented in 1909 by General Electronics in the United States • Charles Strite invented the modern, pop-up toaster in 1919 • In 1925, using a redesigned version of Strite's toaster, the Toastmaster Company began to sell the first household toaster that could brown bread on both sides simultaneously • Albert Marsh discovered the filament wire needed to make toast • In 1990 Simon Hackett and John Romkey created toaster which could be controlled from the Internet • Strite was an electrial engeering

  3. The Design Process • You have to know what the problem is before you can invent some thing • Think about a way to solve the problem • Take you ideas and build them • Think about it • If it didn’t work come up with new ideas • When create a design that works share it with the world

  4. the design Process • The modern timed Toaster was invented because Strite was tired of burn toast • Strite found away to fix the problem • He redesigned the old toaster, so that this one was self timed • He thought about a way to prevent burnt toast • He redesigned the old toaster • Strite succeeded in making a self timed toaster. • Now over 75 million Americans eat toast for breakfast everyday Strite wanted more of this and lease of this!

Facts about Toast • The first toaster made in America was called "El Tosto.“ • the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has nearly 100 nonelectric and electric toasters in its collection, from the 18th century to the 1980s. • Toasting bread began as a method of make bread last longer. • Toast came form the Latin word “tostum” meaning to burn • The average household spends 35 hours a year making toast • An estimated 75 million Americans eat toast every day
