  1. ARD Prasad DRTC, ISI ard at drtc dot isibang dot ac dot in An Analysis of ETDMS, UKETD-DC and Sodhganga Metadata Schema

  2. ETDMS UKETDMS Shodhganga ETD Schema No W3C Standard for ETD

  3. Basically meant for Bibliographic data Most widely used Supported by many harvester software Ex: PKP Harvester But least granular, does not support qualifiers (sub-elements) nor attributes W3C approved Minimal set: Meant for non-cataloguers for self-archiving Best suited as lowest common denominator Dublin Core

  4. Has the same element set as DC But more Granular Many elements are refined with qualifiers Ex: dc:contributor.advisor; dc:format.extent Default schema of DSpace But not as exhaustive as MODS or MARCXML Consequently does not cover all types of documents As such requires to be extended in case ETDs QDC: Qualified Dublin Core

  5. Format Identifier Source Language Relation Coverage Rights Dublin Core Metadata Element Set (DCMES) – 15 Elements Title Creator Subject Description Publisher Contributor Date Type

  6. Title: Title proper, Alternative Title Description: Table of Contents, Abstract Date: Created, Valid, Available, Issued, Modified Format: Extent, Medium Relation: Is Version Of, Has Version etc. (total 12 qualifiers) Coverage: Spatial, Temporal Elements Qualified in QDC

  7. Extended QDC of DSpace

  8. desciption.note description.release contributor.role (Ex: advisor, referee, chair etc.) thesis.degree.name thesis.degree.level thesis.degree.discipline thesis.degree.grantor Extended DC for ETDMSby NDLTD

  11. Schema need to be defined to make it an Indian Standard Schema should be made available on net for validation Should be followed by all the Indian Universities to ensure interoperability for OAI-PMH and OAI-ORE Tweaking PKP harvester to havest ETD metadata should not be difficult Suggestions

  12. Schema should have least possible deviation from QDC Schema should be amenable for crosswalk with ETDMS and UKETD-DC Subject descriptors should uniformly follow some VCD We should develop patch or toolkit for to incorporate ETD metadata schema DSpace to be followed by Universities/colleges Suggestions
