  3. Let’s learn more about one of the apostle • Philip = “friend of horses” • See handouts • Joe Friday, Dragnet “Just the facts, ma’am” • Fifth Pew from the Front clip

  4. Map of the Apostles

  5. Discussion Questions • On what occasion did Philip step out of character as a cautious, matter-of-fact man? • Bringing Nathanael to Jesus • How can his advice to Nathaniel, “Come and see!” become a witnessing tool for the Church of our day? • That’s all we have to say to a friend, God creates the faith in his Son. • Not hard, share the joy you have with others. • Really hard to mess this up!

  6. Discussion Questions • Does Jesus find us or do we find Jesus? Explain your answer. • Jesus finds us, he creates faith in us. • How can the over-practical attitude become harmful to the Church’s work and a hindrance to its progress? How can it be helpful? • Harmful = too much focus on numbers and logistics, not trusting in God to provide • Helpful = not enough focus on numbers and logistics

  7. Discussion Questions • Discuss Philip’s plea, “Lord, show us the Father.” Should it have been asked at all? What was Jesus’ answer? (John 14:6-9) • Should not have been asked at all. • Seeing Jesus = seeing the Father; he is God himself. • Do you know anyone with Philip's characteristics? • Practical person, direct, knows the numbers

  8. Philip • We praise you, Lord, for Philip, / Blest guide to Greek and Jew, • And for young James the faithful, / Who heard and followed you. • Oh, grant us grace to know you / The victor in the strife, • That we with all your servants / May wear the crown of life. • - CW 552 By All your Saints Still Striving
