  • Non-invasive oral health screening

  • Notes the presence of caries, fillings, and sealants or ECC; estimates treatment urgency

  • Done by medical or dental professionals



  • Take a snapshot of the state’s oral health needs

  • Plan OH programs for the state

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs

  • Implementing surveillance requires partnering with many groups in the state and can assist in establishing a broad based group participating with future oral health surveillance initiatives.
