  1. vicon-security.com Video Security Design Workshop: VMS Design Using the Features of ViconNet

  2. New Technology – New Issues • Newest Generation of IP Video Systems Presents New Challenges: • Systems are entirely IP • They include megapixel cameras with significantly higher picture resolution • Ease of connectivity is facilitating more cameras-per-system Need for More Resources!

  3. The Impact of Megapixel Cameras

  4. Rules Of Thumb For SYSTEM Design • Cameras • Pick the right camera from the resolution and FPS stand point • User Stations • What is the best application for each user? • NVR • Calculate the number of NVRs considering location • Calculate the storage required per NVR considering internal or external drives • Storage • If using a SAN, try to allocate a separate network • Make sure the storage is well balanced

  5. Design a System with the Following: 100 IP cameras 50 are 4-CIF; average 2Mbps 50 Megapixel; average 3Mbps 5 viewing stations watching 16 cams each 24/7 recording of all cameras On average, 3 users will be using each camera at any given time Assumptions: Each video stream is ~ 2.5 Mbps (average) We can use 1 Gbps switches System Design Example
