  1. Using the Georgia Online Assessment System(OAS) We will lead the nation in improving student achievement. Kathy Cox, State Superintendent of Schools

  2. Background • A web-based system that provides tests using the same kind of questions that appear on the end-of-year CRCT, Science, Soc. St., Math, and Language Arts GHSGT. • Two kinds of tests are provided: • Student tests • Grade-specific tests assigned automatically • Completely under students’ control • Teacher-created and assigned tests • Teacher determines the nature of test, who takes the test, when the test is taken

  3. Getting Started • The OAS System site information: • http://www.georgiaoas.org • All of Georgia is in one database so users, tests, and classes must be unique. • Find manuals, presentations • Information about items, support, status

  4. Getting Started (cont.) • Go to test site (e.g., http://www.georgiaoas.org) Popup blockers must be disabled to login! In Windows XP, open IE, chose Tools, Pop-up Blocker, disable Pop-up Blocker.

Getting Started (cont.) • Login IDs and passwords • System-wide and building-level OAS administrative accounts were assigned by GaDOE • System or school OAS administrator creates teacher and student accounts • Import roster files • Files may be created locally through extract from SIS • Input individual accounts manually

  8. Take Student Tests: Select the content area Click on cell to select content area

  9. Take Student Tests:Select the specific test to take Click on a test to select and highlight it Click on “Take Test” button

  10. Take Student Tests:Take the test Click on radio button to select answer Use navigation buttons to move between questions

  11. Take Student Tests:Complete the test Use the drop-down menu to jump to a different question, and to see which questions have and have not been answered On the last question, the “Next Question” button changes to “Grade My Test”

About Reading Tests • Reading tests (both student tests and teacher-assigned tests) have a slightly different format. • Reading tests have two windows that scroll independently so that you can see the reading passage and the questions at the same time. • All questions associated with a particular reading passage are displayed in the same window. Scroll through the window to see all questions associated with a passage. • The “Next Question” button takes you to the first question associated with the next reading passage.

  18. Take Teacher-Assigned Tests:Complete test, see results The kind of feedback a student receives depends on the test properties the teacher specified when creating the test.

Teacher Functions:Create a new test Give tests descriptive names so you (and others) know the grade level and content area it covers First, specify the test properties Red checkmarks indicate required fields Test IDs must be unique, contain no spaces or special symbols You chose the questions or allow the system to chose them.

Complete the specification of test properties An additional login and password can be required to take a test Feedback (e.g., “Good job” on scores above 80%; a link to a web site for additional study on scores below 70%) can be attached to specific score ranges (an additional blank text box appears when one is filled)

  28. Teacher Functions:Select and add questions Click on the check box next to an item to select it Click on page numbers to navigate to other pages of questions Click to add selected questions.

  29. Teacher Functions:Create a new test (cont.) You can then preview the test, add items from other domains, grades, or subject areas, change the position of the items and/or create the test

  30. Teacher Functions: Manage existing tests Once a test has been created, click on the test name link and you can modify its properties, try it out, remove questions or the test, or preview it

  31. Teacher Functions: Test assignment Once a test has been created, it can also be assigned to students by returning to the Test Design Center Click here to assign a test or to view student test results.

  32. Teacher Functions: Test assignment (cont.) Select the class (click on the blue alphabet letters) that you want to assign tests to. You can only see classes assigned to you.

  34. Teacher Functions: Assign new test Tests (and benchmarks)created by others at your school that you can assign to your class. Tests created by you Set parameters if desired and click “Submit”

  35. Teacher Functions: View results There are 3 ways to view or export test results Under the Students tab, click here to view teacher assigned results.

  43. Power Teacher Functions (cont.) : Create Classes Under the Classes Tab, your can create a new Class, modify a class, delete a class (BE CAREFUL!), and assign tests to a class.
