  2. Juxtapose (verb) • Juxtaposing Shaquille O’Neal with Mr. Gantz really showed the NBA star’s height; however, the English teacher did feature some mad hops.

  3. Onerous (adjective) • The onerous sound of the bell told me I was late for American Studies; moving against my will, I plodded to class. Mr. Ewing was going to be irate.

  4. Demographic (adj/noun) • In a thorough demographic study, Irish vegetarian fishermen over 30 who were originally from the Midwest but moved to Texas were more likely to vote for Obama 50% of the time. • The survey showed an interesting demographic: men in this sample were more likely to vote for McCain.

  5. Deluge (noun) • In a malignant deluge of academia, I had an AP Bio, AP American Studies and AP Physics test on the same day; I also had a band contest in Des Moines.

  6. Secular (adjective) • Although largely secular, the motivational speaker’s message did include two passages from the Bible.
