  2. What is a constellation? A constellation is a group of stars.

  3. What is a circumpolar constellation? • A circumpolar constellation is one whose apparent path seems to circle a celestial pole.

  4. Meet a circumpolar constellation This is Draco.

  5. It is also known as The Dragon • He got his nickname because of how he looks, which is a dragon.

  6. Stars that make up Draco! • The 3 brightest stars are Eltanin, Rastaban, & Altais. • Eltanin is the brightest star of the 3 brightest stars. • Altais is the next brightest star. • Then it is Rastaban which is the least brightest out of the 3 brightest stars on Draco

  7. Where can you find Draco in the sky? • Hercules, Lyra, & Ursa Major, • 17 H:00’ +65 degrees • Four galaxies and a Planetary Nebula Cepheus Draco Ursa minor

  9. Myth of Draco Athena was attacked by a dragon. She flung it into the air, she wrapping it around the pole. To this day the dragon remains in the night sky. The constellation Draco can be found revolving around the celestial North Pole. This type of constellation is said to be circumpolar.

  10. What is a seasonal constellation? • A seasonal constellation is a constellation you could see during a season.

  11. Meet a seasonal constellation • This constellation is Cancer. • You can see it in Spring & Autumn.

  12. It is also known as The Crab • The Crab is it’s nickname because he looks like a crab.

  13. Stars that make up Cancer • The 3 brightest stars are Acubens, Asellus Australis, & Asellus Borealis. • Asellus Astralis is the brightest star out of the 3 brightest stars on Cancer, then it’s Asellus Borealis, and the 3rd brightest star is Acubens.

  14. Where can you find Cancer in the sky? • Leo Minor, Lynx & Canis Minor border my constellation. • 08 h: 40’ +20 degrees • 2 Open Clusters Lynx Cancer Leo Sextans Hydra

  15. Myth of Cancer • Characters • The Gods are Hera and Hercules • The monster is Hydra

  16. Myth of Cancer • Hera had sent Cancer (The Crab) to distract Hercules while he was fighting Hydra The Water Snake. So Cancer had distracted him for a moment but Hercules had the power to turn around and step on Cancer and kill him. Once Hera placed Cancer in the sky, Hera made him dim because he wasn’t successful.
