  4. Step #1- Community ProfileImportant Question • Why do a Community Profile? • Helps you identify current and potential resources • Are there agencies that could collaborate? • Helps you identify needs • Do you have enough health care facilities, roads, etc.?

Step #1- Community ProfileWhat Does This Report Contain? • Identify the Building Blocks of Your Community Profile • Characteristics of Residents • Age, Race, Income, Education Level, Occupation, etc. • Structural Environment • Numbers and Type of Institutions • Educational, Health Care, Social Service, Economic, Government • Numbers and Types of Other Structures • Parks, Roads, Sewage Systems, Water Lines • Physical Environment • Amenities, Natural Resources • Cultural Aspects • History, Traditions, Community Norms

Step #2-Needs Assessment • Why Do a Needs Assessment? • Need to estimate existence and extent of deficiency • Need to identify and define the needs in your community • Felt or Expressed Need – As identified by residents • Normative Need – What “ought to be” • Comparative Need – What residents have compared to other communities
