  1. Welcome to the Y8 trip to History/French information evening • Winner of best youth operator to France 2012 • Close to the Village of Ambrières les Vallées

  2. Staff accompanying your children are:  • Mrs S Lowe (Assistant Head of House/ Group Leader) • Mrs H Venables (French teacher) • Mr Fletcher (Deputy Headteacher) • Mr M Hodby (Head of History)

  3. Points we will cover tonight • Travel arrangements • Itinerary: excursions and activities on site • Accommodation • Food • Medical/dietary information • What to bring/money • Behaviour

  4. General Information • Be at school at 00:15am on Friday 20th June for 00:45am departure, top gate • Get registered (each teacher will be responsible for a group of pupils). Passports Ready – in hand luggage • Bring a pillow for the journey and wear comfortable clothes • You must wear a seat belt at all times on the coach • Stick to the travel rules on the ferry • Have a packed breakfast and lunch

  5. Coach • Llew Jones • Executive coach: toilet and DVD player • Seatbelts to be worn at all times • Remains with us throughout the duration of the trip – it needs to be kept tidy

Itinerary 1 – Outward journey Friday 20th June • Arrival at school (Top gate) at 00:15 for 00:45 • Brittany Ferry departs from Portsmouth at approx. 8.15 am Arrival in Caen 14.00 (15.00 French Time) • 6 hour Ferry – Bring something to do Estimated arrival at Chateau of 5:30pm • Tour of Chateau with guides • Evening activities – team games.

  7. Itinerary 2 – Château du Tertre Saturday 21st June Ambrieres Boulangerie – Students to experience Croissant Making Preparez à Manger – Visit to a French market, Practising French, Competition Activities at Chateau (to be confirmed. Possibly Zip Wire, Crepe Making or Campfire)

  8. Visit to La Boulangerie Students will watch how to make French Bread and then have the opportunity to eat and make croissants

  9. Le Marché Students will be given the opportunity to practise their French by purchasing something from the market Locals are used to meeting students from the Chateau Additional points will be given for the purchase of any bonus items, issued by teachers

  10. Prèparez à manger • Once students have returned from the market, with their lunch ingredients, they will their prepare their own cold lunch • Meals are judged by teachers and Chateau staff for presentation, value for money and nutritional value

  11. Practising French All students will be issued with a French workbook provided by PGL, received on arrival Town Trail Le Mont St. Michel Boulangerie Reward Cards

  12. Itinerary 3 – Château du Tertre Sunday 22nd June Town Trail around Fougeres Visit to Le Mont St. Michel Activity at the Chateau

  13. Fougeres Students will be given a tour of the town by the PGL tour guide

  14. Le Mont St. Michel Mrs Venables is putting together a quiz combining French and History Opportunity for Students to explore the Island

  15. Itinerary 4 – Château du Tertre Monday 23rd June Leave the Chateau Musee du debarquement in Arromanches Arromanches 360 Cinema Packed Lunch Arrive back around 3:15 am

  16. Accommodation • The students will be choosing who they are sharing a room with – single sex rooms of 4 students in single or bunk beds. ALL BEDDING IS SUPPLIED. • All of the dormitories have toilet and shower facilities nearby, all rooms have sinks • Teachers’ rooms adjacent to students’ rooms - to ensure that the students get some sleep. • Duty instructor per building (24 hours). • A qualified First Aid trained member of staff is on duty at all times.

  17. Food • Continental breakfast • Packed Lunch • (Not on Saturday) • Excellent cooked dinner • Special diets catered for

  18. What to bring • Luggage, with your names on please • Passport • EHIC • Spending money; drinks/ice cream/souvenirs/ etc. • Any medication your child needs • Sun cream • A sun hat • A light raincoat (CURRENT FORECAST SCATTERED SHOWERS) • Suitable footwear • Long sleeved top for zip wire • Pillow or cushion for the journey • Towels and toiletries • Food and drink for journey, breakfast and lunch • Pupils are responsible for their own property! • You have been provided with a kit list this evening.

  19. Mobile Phones • Please be aware of data roaming costs – turn off when leaving UK • Student’s responsibility

  20. Spending Money • Will need English money for return Journey - £10 each way • Students will be given Euros for the Market and at Le Mont St. Michel • Gift Shops/ Boulangerie/ Fougeres - €20 Max per day

  21. Medical/dietary information • If please re-sign and date your child's form this evening (9/6/14), making any relevant amendments • If you are unable to sign tonight, please bring to Mrs Lowe by Friday 13th June – room 40.

  22. Behaviour You must be on best behaviour at all times. You are ambassadors of the school. • Good behaviour ensures safety! • Listen carefully to instructions • Be on time • Go to bed on time • Do not buy offensive items. Do not smoke or drink alcohol

  23. Final reminders • Complete Green medical form and Letter of Consent tonight or by 13th June. • Hand in documents if you have not already done so: Contact details form; photocopy of passport; photocopy of EHIC • Be at school for 00:15 on Friday 20th June
