  16. COOPE-RATION Theme 5: ENERGY

  17. Energy theme – joint responsibility Two coordinated calls have been published in the first FP7 call • Energy systems having an impact in short to medium term (DG TREN)demonstration actions (with a research element included) • COOP-ENERGY-2007-2-TREN Future FP 2. Energy systems having an impact inmedium to long term (DG RTD)research with a longer term perspective COOP-ENERGY-2007-1-RTD

  18. Photovoltaics Solar Thermal Hydropower &Ocean Geothermal Wind Energy Biofuels Renewables in FP7

  19. Energy work programme content Energy efficiency and savings Renewable electricity Generation Clean coal technologies Renewable fuel production Renewables for heating and cooling CO2 capture and storage technologies for zero emission power generation Smart energy networks Hydrogen and fuel cells Knowledge for energy policy making Horizontal programme actions

  20. Renewables in FP7 • Overall goals for 2010: • 12% of renewable energy sources in the energy mix • 21% of green electricity • 5.75% of alternative transport fuel • FP7 Challenges: • drive down the cost for production and storage • increase overall conversion efficiency • increase the share of carbon-neutral fuels for transport and electricity generation 1st Call Renewable electricity Generation PV; hydro-power; ocean; wind; biomass; geothermal; CSP Biomass; bio-refinery; solar radiation; demonstration for transport 1st Call Renewable fuel production 1st Call Renewables for heating and cooling Low/medium temperature solar thermal energy; geothermal energy

  21. International cooperation All activities out in the Energy Theme are open to researchers and research institutions from third countries (International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC), see list of countries in Annex of the WP) Implementation via two mechanisms: 1. The call topics will indicate whether there is a particular relevance for the participation of ICPC. 2. A series of “Specific International Cooperation Actions” (SICA) will be available. These activities could have specific rules for participation (see the topic description in the Workprogramme). 1st Call CSP for water desalination; biofuels production in Latin America; zero emission power generation (China); energy technology transfer (emerging economies, EU neighboring and developing countries)
