  1. How Can I Reduce My Energy Costs In The Winter Saving money is a good and healthy habit, more so in case of winters because the energy bills simply touch the sky during this time of the year! Just because you are saving money on your utility bills and practicing winter electricity reduction doesn’t mean that you have to be uncomfortable or embarrassed, there are plenty of different comfortable ways to reduce energy cost in winter. The very first thing that you need to do is to find out how energy efficient your house is by using the Home Energy Yardstick and the latest home utility bills. If it isn’t energy efficient then you will have to make it so by sealing and insulating areas, cracks and gaps that let in too much air into the house or outside of it. When you seal off such areas, the house will be able to heat and cool through the thermostat and cooling system more efficiently. Another good way of saving money is to make use of natural sources of heat. For instance, you can install a geothermal geyser or a heat pump in order to heat up or cool down your house from natural sources. Most people are under the impression that they need to live near a geyser, hotspring or a geothermal heat source in order to take advantage of geothermal energy but this isn’t necessarily true. If you want to reduce the amount on your energy bills not just for this winter but forever then you will need to replace the products in your house with Energy Star products. These are available in different formats: fixtures, lighting bulbs, home appliances, water heaters, office equipment, etc. One should bank on these as they are indeed extremely efficient and help one a lot! Also, in case of winters, you can try using natural lighting during the day. The practice of daylighting can be further encouraged with the help of energy-

  2. efficient windows which are designed for the purpose of allowing as much light as possible. You should also keep an eye on your water heating system if you have one in the house because these appliances can be very energy consuming, especially the old and obsolete models.
