  2. Why DAPP?

  3. Why DAPP? • Personal Data Shopper • Tailor to your study needs • How do you get your data? • Guidance/advice • Efficiency

  4. Introductions to DAPP Faculty • Mei-Hua Huang, DrPH, Nutritional Epidemiology • Sharon Stein Merkin, PhD, Social Epidemiology

  5. Study Implementation Study Hypothesis Data Study Design Analysis Publication

  6. Example using Public Data- NHANES Is education associated with awareness, treatment and control of hypertension? • STUDY DESIGN • Cross sectional • Multiple waves? • Defining exposure and • outcome • Analysis plan • DATA • Potential overlap in the literature • Obtain data • weighting/survey design issues • unique to NHANES Analysis Publication

  7. Example of Data Requiring Proposal- SWAN Study Hypothesis Data Study Design • Potential overlap • Request data access • Submit concept proposal to publication committee • Analysis Analysis Abstract, poster and manuscript submittedto publication committee Time consuming: minimum months Publication

  8. Services of DAPPResearch guidance/consulting • Guidance in implementing study hypotheses • Identifying relevant datasets • Assistance with data access • Available online • Public data (e.g., NHANES) • Non-public (e.g., SWAN) • Request to Study PI (e.g., PEPI) • Guidance in navigating datasets • Contacts • Analysis services* *Minimal, potential analyst time depending on funding
