The various jobs of the Judicial Branch • The Judicial Branch has the power to declare laws unconstitutional • The Judicial Branch has the power to decide if a person, accused of a crime, is guilty or innocent. • The Judicial Branch has final say about Statues and Regulations • When someone is accused of a crime, the court gives both sides a lawyer and a chance to present facts and relevant laws to prove their innocence.

  3. The Supreme Court • The Supreme Court handle any cases that other courts cannot take • The Supreme Court really only has a few cases per year • The Supreme Court is also the highest level of the Judicial Branch

How the Judicial Branch checks and getschecked by the other branches • The Judicial branch checks the legislative branch by declaring a law unconstitutional. • The Judicial Branch can check the executive branch by declaring its actions unconstitutional. • The Legislative branch checks the judicial branch by approving the judges and they can also impeach the judges. • The executive branch checks the judicial branch by appointing their judges, it also must approve the judges.

What would happen if the Judicial Branch was taken away? • Unconstitutional laws would be passed • There would be rebellions, riots, and uprisings all around America, like Egypt. • No one would have consequences for broken laws • The government would collapse, because all the branches are connected, and if one goes away, the rest would too.

Current Event • Obama’s Healthcare Law was declared unconstitutional on Monday, December 13, 2010 • This was declared unconstitutional because the healthcare plan was forcing citizens to buy a product-healthcare insurance. This is against the constitution and the Supreme Court had the power to abolish it. • Judge Henry Hudson, from the United States District Court for the Eastern Court of Virginia was the first to declare this unconstitutional
