  12. What has changed that we should consider as we update the plan? • New directive from the federal government : focus for special education should be on accessing the state standards curriculum • The Olmstead Plan • Others?

  13. Communication • We all have different stories and draw conclusions • There is information we don’t have that others can provide through listening to their stories/information • Moving from certainty of our story to curiosity of other stories provides us with the full picture • How you each see things matters, how you feel matters • We can assert the strength of our views without diminishing the views and feelings of someone else and get a broader view.

Suggested ground rules • Raise your hand to be called on by the facilitator • Say your name before you speak or sign in the large group, and in the small group if requested. • No side conversations and cross-talking whether speaking or signing during presentations and discussions. • Share the conversation so that everyone has an equal opportunity to express their ideas. • Sign for yourself if comfortable, make it clear to the interpreter if you want to use her services. • Allow for lag time for interpreter.
