  3. WHAT IS STRESS? • Mind-body arousal • Physical response to protect and/or survive • Body’s reaction to any change, demand or force placed upon it

  4. STRESSORS • Any condition or event that causes a stress response • Anything with the potential to trigger a “fight or flight” reaction • Environmental, psychological, sociological, philosophical • Real or imagined • Internal/External • Positive (eustress) • Negative (distress)

  5. THE STRESS RESPONSE • “Fight or flight” • Negative when it exceeds the ability to cope (dysfunction, disease, unhappiness) • Positive when it forces adaptability (improved performance, increased self-confidence) • Holistic
